Frequently asked questions
What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?
HBOT is an advanced oxygen therapy that involves breathing 100% medical oxygen inside a pressurised chamber. Increasing atmospheric pressure allows substantially more oxygen to dissolve into plasma and reach tissues, including areas where circulation or oxygen delivery may be compromised. HBOT may therefore support tissue repair, recovery, regenerative biology, cognitive performance and healthy ageing. At HUM2N, treatment is delivered within a physician-led clinical framework.
What clinical issues can HBOT help support?
HBOT has established clinical applications in selected areas including wound healing and tissue repair, particularly where oxygen delivery is compromised, as well as selected forms of radiation tissue injury. It is also being explored in neurological recovery, chronic inflammation and recovery medicine, athletic recovery and healthy ageing.
Research interest includes traumatic brain injury recovery, neurovascular support, mitochondrial function and regenerative biology. Suitability depends on your individual clinical history and goals.
What happens during a HBOT session?
HBOT is non-invasive. You sit comfortably inside the chamber while breathing 100% medical oxygen under increased atmospheric pressure. Each session includes gradual pressurisation, monitored oxygen exposure and controlled decompression. You may experience pressure in the ears similar to flying or diving during pressurisation. Treatment is closely supervised throughout, with protocols adjusted according to your needs and clinical suitability.
How many HBOT sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your clinical history, treatment goals and the biological outcomes being targeted. HUM2N offers 30, 45, 60 and 90-minute sessions, as well as 5, 10 and 20-session programmes. Some applications may involve repeated exposure as part of a structured protocol. Your practitioner will assess your needs and recommend an appropriate treatment schedule rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.
Is HBOT safe?
HBOT is highly safe when delivered appropriately and with appropriate clinical screening. At HUM2N, treatment is provided using a medical-grade hard-shell chamber with controlled 100% oxygen delivery, physician oversight, clinical monitoring and strict safety protocols. Before treatment, your practitioner will assess relevant contraindications, clinical history and individual suitability. During treatment, oxygen exposure, pressurisation and decompression are carefully controlled and monitored.
